What are Joey Scouts?

Joey Scouts is the first section of the Scouting journey for children aged 5 to 8. Our Garramool mob meets weekly for fun, active, play-based learning in a safe and supportive environment.

Named after the indigenous word for a young kangaroo, Joey Scouts explore the world around them, build friendships, and develop a sense of belonging in their community.

  • Exploring nature and the environment
  • Creative arts and craft activities
  • Games, stories, and imaginative play
  • Building confidence and social skills
  • Learning about community and helping others

Awards & Big Events

Joey Scouts work through the Achievement Pathway, earning badges as they learn and grow. The peak award is the Joey Scout Challenge Award — a recognition of their dedication and development.

Every two years, Joey Scouts attend Kangaree — a massive overnight sleepover with activities, entertainment, and hundreds of Joey Scouts from across the state. It's often the highlight of their Scouting year.

  • Achievement Pathway badges
  • Joey Scout Challenge Award (peak achievement)
  • Kangaree — biennial state event
  • District and Region activities
